There’s still plenty of time before Chevrolet decides to introduce a redesigned version of their Heavy-Duty pickup truck. At this point, the new-gen model is somewhere on a half of that journey, so there’s still plenty of perplexity regarding the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD.

A set of fresh spy shots, however, reveal a few new details which are mostly related to the new exterior styling. Up front, the thin camouflage hides a massive and wide grille, which had been teased earlier, as well as new LED headlights that appear to be coupled with DRL signatures. Around back, the redesigned Silverado HD hosts something I haven’t expected. As you can see, in addition to the side steps below the rear doors, the heavy-duty pickup truck features a pair of those integrated into the rear bumper. This way, it will be quite easy to jump in into the truck’s bed.

Since it’s still pretty far away from the production model, it’s still too early to say whether the redesign is going to bring something revolutionary different or not. Still, I think that neither shape nor footprint is going to change essentially, so we need to seek some big differences under the skin. According to the latest reports, the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will manage to cut some weight thanks to lighter materials, while the new platform should increase truck’s rigidity.

Inside, the workhorse is going to host a notably larger screen at the top of the center stack, and a totally new steering wheel, which will have plenty of additional functions. The newest spy shots of the cabin suggest that the automaker is not going to get rid of buttons in favor of a touch panel, which is a really great decision. At last, Chevrolet will introduce a new infotainment system, as well as the latest safety aids.

The redesigned heavy-duty truck will stay limited to V8 engines only. Still, I assume that the carmaker has in mind some more powerful mills from those that power today’s model. More precisely, the gasoline model will most probably use an updated 6.0-liter V8 that currently produces 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD Diesel will definitely keep its amazing 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodiesel, yet in place of today’s 910 lb-ft, the redesigned pickup truck will reportedly get 1,000 pound-feet of grunt. Of course, the extra power and torque will have a positive influence on payload and towing abilities of the upcoming vehicle.

Speaking of the arrival, well, the carmaker still keeps the lips tight,  but the latest reports that the 2020 Silverado HD is going to land on Texas State Fair next year.
